I watched Game of Thrones before I started reading ASoIaF and found that all of the characters were really well done in the show. They're pretty much represented the way they are in the books (except that Catelyn is like 100x more crazy about Bran's accident in the book). The both show were rated very high while the shows were going on. But, Breaking Bad objectively had a better ending/final season than Game of thrones.
